Carolina Surf Brand started in 2014, out of a simple idea. This coast deserved a real surf shop, run by people who are actually in the water, not a souvenir stand with boards in the window.
More than a decade later, that's still the whole operation. A shop on the Carolina Beach Boardwalk, a curated board wall, homegrown apparel, and a network of local surfers who test everything we sell before we sell it.
We've watched swells come and go, and watched groms grow into regulars. The shop has stayed about the same size the whole time.
Big enough to carry what you actually need. Small enough that somebody usually remembers your name.
A Shop on the Carolina Beach Boardwalk
Our flagship store sits on the Carolina Beach Boardwalk in Carolina Beach, North Carolina. It's a few steps from the sand, on a boardwalk that has been the center of this town's summer since long before we got here.
This matters more than a mailing address. We are not a warehouse with a domain name.
We're a shop you can walk into, where somebody behind the counter surfed that morning. They can tell you whether it's worth paddling out at the Harper Avenue access before you drive down there.
We know which sandbars are working. We know when the pier is doing something interesting and when it's closed out and flat.
That knowledge doesn't come from a spec sheet. It comes from living here.
The Boardwalk fills up fast in summer. Then it slows to a different kind of good in the off season: quieter mornings, fewer footprints, the same sandbars doing their thing without an audience.

Boards, Chosen by People Who Ride Them
We stock shortboards, mid-length surfboards, longboards, and a rotating rack of used surfboards for people who want to get in the water without spending a thousand dollars to find out what they like.
What we carry isn't decided by a distributor's catalog. It's decided by what actually works in Carolina swell, which is a specific and often humbling thing.
Our home water isn't Hawaii. It's a beach break that can be knee-high and glassy for two weeks, then double overhead for thirty-six hours when a hurricane tracks up the coast in September. A quiver that works here has to handle both.
That's why we carry the shapers we carry. Airlie, shaped right up the coast in Wilmington. Shred Season and Carolina Salt, both out of the Charleston area. WRV, the East Coast standard for a reason. Peterson Surfcraft, deep enough in our rotation that we stock one of their signature models.
None of that is a default lineup. It's boards we've paddled ourselves, from shapers who understand what East Coast swell actually asks of a board.
We'll talk you out of a board that's wrong for you, even when the wrong board costs more. We'd rather sell you one board you love than three you tolerate.
Every used board gets checked before it goes back on the rack. Dings, delamination, fin boxes: the stuff that actually matters once you're paddling past the break. We'd rather turn a board away than sell you something that lets you down on your first session.

Homegrown Apparel, Not Souvenir Apparel
Our apparel line exists because we couldn't find shirts we actually wanted to wear.
There's a lot of surf-adjacent clothing in beach towns. Most of it is designed by somebody who has never been in the ocean, printed on a blank chosen for its price, and built to last exactly one vacation.
We went a different direction. Better blanks, garment-dyed and beach-washed where it makes sense, and designs that come out of this place rather than a stock art library.
Some of our best-known designs came from people in this community. The Fish Taco design, the one people ask about most, was drawn for us years ago by a Charleston surfboard shaper. We've retired it and brought it back more than once, because people wouldn't stop asking.
Other designs pull straight from where we stand. Our Blackbeard line takes its name from Edward Teach, who worked this stretch of the Carolina coast before it was anything but open water and inlets.
It's real regional history, not a costume-shop pirate. Same with the Trident, the mark that's been on our gear since the start.
This coast has always drawn people to it. Our best designs are just an attempt to put that on a shirt.
The King Tide design carries the same idea. Born out of this stretch of coast, worn by the same people who buy it.
None of our best-sellers came out of a stock art library, and that's on purpose. We'd rather make fewer things and make them well.
The CSB Family
The people who represent Carolina Surf Brand are not paid influencers. They're surfers, photographers, and groms from this coast, including the surfers and creators in the CSB Family.
The roster is a real mix. Longtime surfers who've been in the water off Carolina Beach and Folly Beach for decades. A photographer who spends more time chasing light on the water than off it.
There's a marine biologist who's worked coastal field stations since 2002, and reminds the rest of us what we're actually surfing in. And a handful of groms, including one ranked number one in the Mid-Atlantic ESA before they were old enough to drive to the contest.
They test what we make in real conditions and tell us when it doesn't hold up. When we say a shirt survives a summer, it's because somebody in this network wore it through one.
What You'll Find When You Visit
Walk in and the boards are leaned along the wall by type. Longboards on one side, shortboards and mid-lengths on the other, used boards up front for anyone still deciding what they ride.
Apparel fills the middle of the shop, folded and sorted by design rather than buried in a sale bin.
Then ask questions. Whoever's on shift can talk you through volume, rail shape, or why a board that looks right on Instagram might be wrong for our waves.
That's the difference between walking in and ordering online. It's the reason the shop exists in the first place.
